Recently in Montana, we have seen an increased interest in reclaimed and/or textured fir or pine flooring. What many consumers don't realize is that you can get the same look utilizing a hardwood such as oak or hickory. Because fir is such a soft wood, it is not unusual to see them in pretty rough shape after only 10 to 15 years, or less in many cases. Of course, sanding and refinishing these floors is an option, but then you lose the texture and look that was the reason you first chose the floor. A hardwood might be a more appropriate option for your floor, and one that will be usable for the life of your home.
